This past weekend was the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer!
I was SO excited to Walk it again - the last time I participated as a Walker was for the Santa Barbara Walk in 2010. And while I love working as a Crew member, nothing beats participating as a Walker. I was walking with my good friend Michelle as "Team Z" in honor of Michelle's dad (know as "Z Papa") who passed away from cancer this past fall.
At Opening Ceremonies bright and early Saturday morning:
The shirts we wore Day 1, listing the names of those we were walking in honor and in memory of:
Heading out!
On the route, day 1:
26.2 miles, done!
Settling in to our tent:
Day 2 - you go a little crazy due to lack of sleep:
Houses along the route decorate for the walkers, and there are tons of kids with lemonade stations and handing out candy:
39.3 miles, done!
It was a great experience, as always. Poor Michelle had a lot of trouble with her knee (she was over compensating for a foot problem she had the past week and ended up with a bad knee), but she perserved through the entire thing and I was very proud of her.
Thank you so much to all who donatedto the Walk - the Boston 2013 walk raised $4 million, and you have helped make a difference in the fight against breast cancer!
And, as always, thanks to Mike for always supporting me in these long and tiring weekends away and taking on kid duty :)
