After almost a week in Boca, we packed up the car and caravaned our way to Disney World with Grandpa Tim and Nene. Henry was SO EXCITED. He remembers our trip last year very well, and the thought of seeing Mickey and riding the Monorail again had him in ecstasy.
We stayed at "Fort Wilderness" which was fun because we each had our own cabin with bedroom, living room, kitchen, grill, etc.
The resort area was very large, with two pools, a campfire area, the cabins, trails, horseback riding, fishing, etc. The best way to get around was by golf cart, which Henry enjoyed:
Mike looks very cool and casual while driving, doesn't he?:
Thursday was our first full day at Disney, and our first at the parks. Alas, this was also the day of horrible "End of Days"-esque weather in Central Florida. You may have heard about it - pouring rain, tornadoes, thousands of lightning strikes every hour in our area....you get the picture. The rain woke me up at 5:30 AM and didn't stop until almost 9 PM. Not the best day for Disney.
But, we weren't going to let rain and fear of death by lightning stop us. Here we are in our Disney ponchos ready to brave the rain (you can somewhat see the scary weather map on the TV behind us):
First, we headed to Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary resort for breakfast with Mickey and friends:
Henry got over his terror from last year - he was very excited to see all the characters, and Goofy had him cracking up (I had to bring the not great camera this day due to the rain, so not the best quality, alas):
After breakfast, we hopped on the Monorail - Henry's favorite part of the entire trip:
And despite the skies:
we headed into the Magic Kingdom:
We had a brief respite when we first got there, but soon it began to pour again. The good news was that the rain kept the crowds away, so we were able to get on some rides that usually have really long lines (Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Small World, etc) with no wait at all. But, we were pretty waterlogged. My shoes didn't fully dry for several days. After a few hours we called it quits and headed back to the hotel.
That evening, we braved Downtown Disney:
We played at the Lego store, Henry built his own Dinosaur (which he named "Howard") at the T Rex cafe, we had dinner, and decided that rain and ice cream went very well together:
So. our first day was pretty wet, but we still had a great time!
