Cape Cod 2013
We squeezed in our last trip of the summer with a week on Cape Cod! We rented a house with our friends the Munds and stayed in Centerville, right by Hyannis. The house was great - steps away from Craigville Beach (and within walking distance of Four Seas Ice Cream - yum!). Alas, the summer of bad weather continued for us and we had mostly overcast, cool, and rainy days. No matter, we still had fun!
The first night and day we were able to meet up with the Dhar-Hoffmans and LeWinter-Christs - the kids all had a ball running through the house being maniacs, and then the big kids all had a sleepover (where they didn't fall asleep until 10:30 and woke up before 6 the next day. It took days to recover!)
Sunday was one of our few sunny days:
Ben and Elliot had a mini showdown over their matching swimsuits:
Pushing may have been involved:
Monday and beyond we braved the beach during non-beach weather (you will see many photos of Mike in a sweatshirt that we had to go out and buy the second day - no one was expecting it to be so cold!):
Took a trip to the Zooquarium:
Ate fudge:
Spent an incredibly foggy morning all alone on Sandy Neck Beach:
Played some minigolf:
Ate lots of ice cream:
And had a great morning on Skaket Beach:
Henry and Jake spent a long time collecting hermit crabs, and Henry made an elaborate road/canal system for them to travel in:
We also spent two rainy mornings at an indoor wave pool/water slide pool, but it was so humid inside that my pictures look like this:
Our last evening, the sun came out!!!
In spite of the gloomy weather, it was a good trip. The families were on really different schedules with the babies, so we had a good mix of togetherness and family only time. Henry as always adored the beach - building sandcastles and canal systems everywhere he went, along with accumulating massive rock and hermit crab collections, and eating a never ending stream of blueberry ice cream. Elliot is a total beach bum who equally loves the water and sand, and DESPERATELY tried to catch a seagull all week. "Bird! Bird!" was a constant refrain (as was "Ball! Ball!" while pointing at the buoys).
It was a great end to the summer!
