Maine 2012

This year we decided to take a trip back to a location we visited a few years ago with Henry and loved - Camden, Maine. So, we once again packed everything but the kitchen sink into the car and headed out with kids in tow (Elliot is a seasoned traveller already!) A normally 4 hour car ride turned into a 6+ hour trip due to an excessively long stop at the LL Bean flagship store, and a late lunch break at Red's (the BEST fried fish sandwich you will ever have) where Mike had to wait in line for 45 minutes (at 4 PM! Imagine the line at noon...). But, we finally arrived and without too much drama (Elliot is a much better car passenger than Henry was as a baby).

Mike found a spectacular house for us:

It was very private - located on 80 acres or so - and right on the lake.

Henry had a lot of fun exploring the property:

And every day he and Mike would head to the dock for some canoeing:

Elliot and I would hang out on the dock together to wait:

We took a day trip to visit some lighthouses and rocky beaches:

One day we made the 2 hour trek to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park - well worth the drive! We went to the top of Cadillac Mountain:

Spent some time at Sandy Beach:

And saw Thunder Hole:

We spent one afternoon swimming in Lake Megunticook:

And Mike and Henry spent a night camping in the backyard (with indoor 'Smores first, of course!)

(the camping went well except for the period between about 3 and 4 AM when Henry woke Mike up to discuss all the animal sounds he was hearing).

The trip sadly had a touch of drama...my weird eye issues you may know about made an appearance necessitating a day spent at a local eye doctor and then an earlier than planned departure back to Boston. I'm still not back in very good seeing condition, but we are back with my great doctor here in Boston and hopefully things should be better soon.

Other than that minor blip, it was a wonderful vacation and a great way to end the summer. Now we are back resting up while we prepare for Henry's first day of Kindergarten this Thursday!!
