Marathon Monday 2012

We are upon another Patriots Day here in Massachusetts, which not only means a day off of school (well, Henry actually has this entire week off for Spring Break...)but also means the Boston Marathon! Most unfortunately for the runners, this year was abnormally and brutally hot. The Boston Athletic Association was actually strongly encouraging all non qualifying runners (AKA, the thousands of charity, non eltite athlete runners) to defer to next year and not run at all due to the risks with the heat. Of course, the vast majority of runners didn't listen (if you train all winter and are crazy enough to attempt running 26.2 miles in the first place, you don't let 80 degree temperatures on Heartbreak Hill stop you...)

Henry whipped up some signs for the runners in the morning:

And after meeting Jake for lunch, we loaded up on the sunscreen and headed to Beacon Street to watch the runners go by:

The kids didn't last all too long in the heat (our pasty Bostonian skin is not used to such temperatures in April...) so we headed to the park for a bit where Henry and Jake took turns running races in imitation of the marathoners, and then we cooled off with some ice cream for everyone:
