As we know, Henry is one of those kids that finds something he likes and then turns it into a mini obsession. First, and for a very, very long time, it was trains. Train themed birthdays, gleeful trips on the T, train posters on his wall, and more trains and tracks then I like to admit for his much loved train table (seriously - it is embarrassing). Then, we moved onto Cars last year: Lightning McQueen lunchboxes and backpacks, only playing with his Cars toys, etc. Now, we have moved on again. His new obsession is Toy Story 3, and boy this one is a doozy.
He saw the first Toy Story a ways back and was fairly indifferent. Then the other month he watched Toy Story 3 and it was like he had a religious epiphany of some kind - his life transformed. The fact that TS3 has a long sequence involving garbage trucks and landfills (his current life's ambition is to work in waste management, and this morning he informed us that he was sad that he didn't live in an apartment building because they have dumpsters and we don't) made it just that much better for him. He had received the TS3 landfill set for Christmas from Grandpa Tim and Nene, and add that with his various garbage and recycling trucks, and that is literally ALL he does. He disappears into his room for hours, creating various TS3 scenarios.
Once a week, he is allowed to watch the movie:
Yes, he wears Toy Story party hat and lines up his Toy Story figures while he watches so they can see the film, as well.
He loves the aliens from the movie - they get a special viewing place of honor on the coffee table:
He also likes to place his landfill set right in front of the TV while watching:
His current project is creating a giant Sunnyside Daycare (another part of the movie) out of boxes:
Yes, his birthday next month will be Toy Story 3 themed. It looks like this is an obsession that will be sticking around for a while...
