Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day!

We decided to celebrate Mothers Day by once again going to the Lilac Festival at the Arnold Arboretum. The weather was significantly colder than last year, but it was still beautiful at the Arboretum and we had a really fun time.

Henry and Jake once again played their favorite game - "tackle the adults":

Henry and I with Michelle and Jake:

In the afternoon, Mike and I took Henry to see the Big Apple Circus:

It is a small circus, so our seats were nice and close:

Henry liked it a lot - especially the acts that involved the horses and dogs. He seemed confused by the clown humor, and at times was very concerned about a clown potentially hurting himself. However, his favorite part of the circus was clearly the mass quantities of popcorn he was able to consume (cotton candy was also enjoyed - alas, no pictures of that):

After the circus, we wandered to Faneuil Hall, where Henry met Sam Adams:

And discovered that it was an ideal location for playing trucks:

Kate's Birthday Party

This afternoon we went to Kate's 3rd birthday party! It was actually a triple birthday party for Kate and her friends, twins Danny and Charlie. They had a bounce house, so we knew that Henry would be in bliss. A bounce house, cake, and friends - what could be better??

The birthday girl:

Enjoying the bounce house:

Laughing with Alexander:

This picture cracks me up - Henry's "sad face". Dramatic, much? Think he takes after me???:

The 3 birthday kids, and the cake! (ever notice that at all these parties Henry is right up there next to the cake? He means business with his birthday cake enjoying):

I think Henry and Kate enjoyed the cake:

Happy 3rd birthday Kate!!!

Romeo and Juliet

Today was the day that "Romeo and Juliet", the two swans who reside in the Boston Public Garden, were returned to their pond after a winter spent at the local zoo (as an amusing aside, Romeo and Juliet have been a summer fixture in Boston for years, and just the other year it was discovered that they are actually a same sex couple - Juliet and Juliet. Only in Massachusetts!)

The day they release the swans they have a little celebration - a reading of "Make Way for Ducklings", a parade, bands, etc. We went with a few friends to check it out.

On the Duckling statue:

Checking out the swan boats:

With Lila and Meredith listening to "Make Way for Ducklings":

Sammy's Birthday Party

This afternoon was our friend Sammy's 3rd birthday party. It was held at My Gym, where Henry takes a weekly class, so we knew it would be a blast.

Henry went on the trampoline:

Went on a sled:

Rode a train:

Watched a puppet show:

Enjoyed some cake:

And learned to jump off of high objects:

Happy 3rd birthday, Sammy!

Mealtime Playtime

As we have mentioned many times, Henry is not the world's best eater. Here is an example of what Henry does at mealtimes instead of actually eating anything:

Soccer

This morning marked Henry's introduction to organized sports - soccer class! Seeing as how the class was for 3/4 year olds, and Henry is just a week past turning 3, we weren't expecting much in terms of actually learning the finer points of the game, but the good news is that Henry seemed to have a fun time. He was there with his friend Jake, liked the shin guards (he really needs socks to go over them, but I was unprepared), and enjoyed the drills for "trapping" the ball. He had a wee bit of trouble remembering the NO HANDS rule,he and Jake picked up their balls and just started running across the field several times, and had one major sobbing breakdown when he wasn't able to wear a red jersey during the mock game. Other than that, it was fun and he said he was excited to go back next week.

After class, Mr. Shag got a much needed haircut:

That he then showed off at lunch:
